Liverpool may still be in the grips of a defensive crisis, but they also have a new-found mental toughness that can catapult them into the top four.
That is the warning issued by their talisman Kolo Toure to arch-rivals Manchester United, ahead of their crucial showdown this weekend which will go a long way towards deciding the Champions League scrap between the pair.
The Reds now lie just three points behind the Old Trafford club after a battling draw against leaders Arsenal, and Toure – who has never been on the losing side this season in 10 appearances – believes they are showing more backbone.
“There has been a big, big improvement recently in our mental strength and that’s very important when you’re at a big club. You can’t ever give up,” he explained.
