Chief Coach of the Nigeria U-23 team Samson Siasia has lamented the inability to secure the release of some key foreign-based players for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations billed to kick off on Nov. 28 in Senegal.

Siasia had pencilled down a host of foreign-based players for the championship which serves as Rio OlympIc games qualifiers, but at the end of the day only four players will be available for him

Former Super Eagles coach Siasia had requested for the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi, Musa Yahaya, Alex Iwobi, Ikechukwu Azubike, Taiwo Awoniyi, Junior Ajayi and Isaac Success. Only the last four confirmed they will be available in Senegal.

But Siasia would lament the inability to get these players especially Iheanacho who he was hoping would help solve his team’s scoring problem.

“I had high hopes that the likes of Iheanacho and Simon Moses would be available until some recent developments made it impossible. We shall make do with what we have and see how far we can go,” Siasia, who is in Gambia with the squad, told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“We are set for Senegal. We are working hard to correct the errors that cost us the All Africa Games top spot. Scoring goals was our major problem in Congo but I think we have the quality to do better in Senegal.”
