Having spent Saturday night on top of the Premier League for the first time in 20 months, Arsenal have the spring back in their step and according to the Sunday People that will give them the confidence to make a bid for Schalke’s “teenage ace” Leroy Sane.

The 19-year-old striker, described by the People, as one of Germany’s brightest talents, has scored seven goals in nine games this season and apparently the Gunners “had spies in Gelsenkirchen” last week as Schalke drew 2-2 with Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

Sane is expected to appear for Germany in next summer’s European Championships and Arsene Wenger is determined to sign him before his value becomes too excessive. Arsenal scouts were “impressed” by what they saw of Sane against Sparta – including the goal that gave Schalke a share of the points – and a bid is expected in Janaury.

Meanwhile the People also claims that Arsenal are “continuing to monitor” Stephan el Shaarawy, who is currently on loan at Monaco from AC Milan. Wenger is an “admirer” of the 22-year-old and believes his versatility either out wide or in the middle could be a boon to his squad.

Arsenal transfer news: Ruben Neves sparks Liverpool fight

The race to sign “teen sensation” Ruben Neves is hotting up with Talksport reporting that Arsenal, Liverpool and West Ham are all courting the 18-year-old Portuguese hotshot.

Neves became the youngest Champions League captain ever on Tuesday when he skippered Porto to victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv. Not surprisingly the midfielder is regarded as one of Portugal’s stars of the future with Talksport describing him as similar in style to Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets.

Taking its cue from Portuguese sources, Talksport adds that the trio of Premier League clubs “are all scouting the Portugal Under-21 international” and he will consider his future in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Caughtoffside claims that Arsenal are “weighing up a last-ditch effort” to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The Gunners have long been linked with the Argentine wide man and apparently Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add Lavezzi to his squad in the new year.

Now in the final year of his contract in the French capital, Caughtoffside quotes Italian publication Calciomercato, which states that the French champions might well “be prepared to let him leave for a cut price fee” when the transfer window opens in January.

Arsenal transfer news: only  Gunners can afford Cavani

Now that Arsenal are back on the winning track might it be easier to attract a world-class striker in January’s transfer window?

That’s what Caughtoffside believes, the website speculating that Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani could be edging closer to the Emirates.

The Gunners have been linked with the Uruguayan for nearly as long as Jack Wilshere has spent injured, and the 28-year-old has been openly discussing his future with Italian rag Corriere del Mezzogiorno.

“For us players the future is unpredictable,” admitted Cavani, who has scored six Ligue 1 goals in ten appearances this season for PSG. Though Napoli have expressed an interest in resigning a player who spent three seasons with them before leaving for France, the Italian media says no Serie A team would be able to match Arsenal if a bidding war breaks out in the New Year.

Arsenal transfer news: bid to trigger Nolito release clause?

Fresh from beating Bayern Munich in the Champions League could Arsenal’s enhanced reputation help in their pursuit of forward Nolito?

Rumours linking the Emirates outfit with the 29-year-old have been growing in recent weeks and now Metro claims that Arsenal “sent scouts to watch” Nolito last weekend in action for Celta Vigo against Villarreal. The winger got the winner to give his side a 2-1 victory, more evidence of why he was named the La Liga player of the month for September.

Barcelona are also known to be sniffing around Nolito but according to reports in the Spanish press Arsenal are ready to make the first move in January, with the London club reportedly ready to activate his £13.2m release clause.

Arsenal transfer news: race for ‘new Ozil’ Calhanoglu begins

With Arsenal fans bracing themselves for more Champions League misery tonight, this time against Bayern Munich, could Germany be a source of future salvation for the Gunners?

According to website, Arsenal “have begun talks” to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. The 21-year-old Turkish international has been dubbed the ‘new Mesut Ozil’ in some quarters, which presumably means he drifts in and out of games and goes missing in the crunch matches.

Nonetheless it seems Arsenal are serious in their interest, particularly as Man United manager Louis van Gaal is also said to be making discreet enquiries. Calhanoglu, who scored 12 goals and provided eight assists last season, has already found the net five times in this Bundesliga campaign and Caughtoffside predicts Arsene Wenger will make a move in the New Year.

The Daily Star reports that Karim Benzema has scotched suggestions he could ever move to Arsenal from Real Madrid. In conversation with the French press, Benzema said he found last summer’s rumours linking him with the Emirates a “laugh”, and declared he had no intention of heading to England: “I am a starter at the best club in the world, why would I want to leave? I am happy. It’s that simple.”

The Star also says that Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann is on Wenger’s wish list with the 24-year-old striker likely to cost Arsenal “around £33m”.

As for the Daily Express, it claims that the agent of Lorenzo Insigne has moved to end speculation the Napoli frontman could be contemplating a move to Arsenal. The paper says the Gunners first expressed an interest in Insigne in the summer and are “planning to renew their interest” when the window reopens in January. But in conversation with Radio Crc, Antonio Ottaiano had this message for Arsenal. “They’ll have to give up though, Lorenzo is a Napoli player until 2019, and not only is he happy, he wants to win in a blue shirt.”

Arsenal transfer news: Gunners go back in for Kokorin

Despite banging three goals past Watford on Saturday, Arsene Wenger “will look to bolster his attacking options” in January with the purchase of Aleksandr Kokorin.

According to the The Sun, the Gunners gaffer will table a £7m bid for the Dynamo Moscow hitman having tried without success to land him in August. The Sun claims that the Nutty Professor suggested a loan deal for the 24-year-old Russian but that was knocked back by Dynamo. Kokorin’s contract expires at the end of the season and the Sun claims “Dynamo may cash in as they risk losing him for free in the summer”.

The young frontman, a member of Russia’s World Cup squad in Brazil last year, has been admired by Arsenal for some time but the Sun quotes a source close to Kokorin saying that “other Premier League clubs will swoop” if Dynamo do decide to put him on the market in the new year.

Meanwhile the Daily Star reports that the Gunners have missed the boat on signing Zach Clough, for the time being at least.

The Gunners, and other teams including Manchester United, had been linked to the 20-year-old Bolton striker, but it’s reported the young forward believes his interests for the moment would be best served by extending his stay at Bolton.

Arsenal transfer news: £22m apiece for Batshuayi and Isco

Belgian hitman Michy Batshuayi is has been linked to Arsenal once again. According to Talksport, the Gunners “are lining up a bid” for the Marseille man with the broadcaster citing French media as the source for its claim.

The 22-year-old Batshuayi has bagged six goals in nine appearances for Marseille this season and it’s believed Arsene Wenger is “prepared to shell out around £22m” to get his man in the new year. There is an obstacle to overcome, however, and that’s the Belgian’s contract that has him at Marseille until 2019.

Talksport claims Marseille will “play hard ball” with the Gunners, and while they aren’t averse to the idea of a big-money transfer the French side would prefer to delay it from January until the end of the season.

South of Marseille and it’s reported in the Spanish press that Arsenal are planning a swoop for Isco. It’s not the first time the Emirates outfit has been linked to the Real Madrid magician, and lo and behold the fee mentioned is £22m – just what they’re expected to pay for Batshuayi.

Coincidence or the Nutty Professor’s cunning new ploy to offer every club the same transfer fee? We couldn’t possibly comment but according to reports Real Madrid will tell Arsenal that their valuation of the 23-year-old midfielder is “much higher”.

Still in Spain and the Daily Star reports that Arsenal and Liverpool are both vying for the services of Barcelona pair Alex Grimaldo and Sergi Samper.

Together they sound like a music hall comedy act, but Grimaldo and Samper are reportedly thinking of leaving the European giants because of coach Luis Enrique’s “request for more signings in January”. The Star quotes left-back Grimaldo telling Catalan radio station RAC1: “Luis Enrique has never said a word to me. I’ve had no contact with him. Nor do I have anything to speak about with him either.”

As a result, says the paper, the defender is being eyed up by both the Gunners and Liverpool, while 20-year-old Samper “would be very interested in a move to London should Arsenal be willing to make an offer”. It’s believed that Barcelona would want in the region of £8.5m for the defensive midfielder.

Arsenal transfer news: winger Jese could quit Real Madrid

Once again Arsenal are on “red alert” and this time it’s Real Madrid ace Jese who has got the Gunners all agitated.

The former Spanish Under-21 international feels he’s not getting a fair crack of the whip at the Bernabeu, reports the Daily Star, and the winger is beginning to consider his options. The 22-year-old has totalled just three appearances this season and his agent, Gines Carvajal, believes he needs to get more game time. “He needs to play more, that’s the best way to keep his spirits up,” Carvajal told Spanish paper Marca. “The club will have to make a decision.”

According to the Star Carvajal’s comments “will catch the eyes of Premier League giants Arsenal”, who are known to be admirers of Jese’s and may make an offer as early as the new year.

As we reported earlier in the week, another youngster said to be in Arsenal’s sights is Riechedly Bazoer but now comes news that Barcelona “have joined the race” for the 19-year-old Dutch midfielder. Apparently Arsene Wenger has sent scouts to watch Bazoer in action for Ajax, as have German champions Bayern Munich, but Talksportclaims that European champions Barcelona are also interested with technical director Roberto Fernandez in Holland on Tuesday’s night to watch him turn out for the national team against the Czech Republic.
