Gaston Ramirez’s – our record signing at the point – Southampton career hasn’t really gone to plan, but his agent has said that he will be departing the club come the January window.
Having joined us from Bologna back in August 2011 for a reported £12million, the now 24 year old has only made a total of 27 starting appearances for us, with a further 24 coming from the bench since then – in that time he’s scored eight times.
Last season he spent the year out on loan with Hull City, taking in eleven starting appearances and eleven substitute appearances, with a return of one goal, and despite praise for his training efforts and attitude from manager Ronald Koeman he continues to play little to no part in his plans.
He has only made one appearance this year in our six nil Capital One Cup victory over MK Dons.
The Uruguayan international’s agent has said that with him being a free agent come the summer, plans are being put in place for a January departure.
Pablo Betancourt is quoted by Talksport as saying.
‘As is known, the contract of Ramirez at Southampton expires next June. There is talk of an interest from Bologna, Lazio and Peñarol. Out of respect for the English club with which he is still under contract we avoid naming names. The relationship with the leadership of the Saints is great, with us you are always well behaved. We were told that we can look for a new team and we are working to make it happen as early as January. I received interesting proposals from Italy. His preference is to return to Serie A.’
