Anya Shrubsole Stars With Four Wickets As England Dominate Day One Women’s Ashes Series

Anya Shrubsole

hrubsole ripped out the Australia top order during a 37-ball purple patch either side of lunch that saw Australia crash from 66 without loss to 87-4 after winning the toss and opting to bat at Canterbury.

The tourists then slipped to 99-5 but, with the aid of Test newcomer Jonassen, who hit an unbeaten 95, Australia rallied to ensure honours finished even after day one.

“We were really happy to take eight wickets but I’ll admit we found their ninth-wicket partnership a little frustrating,” said Shrubsole.

“Credit must go to Jess, because she batted really well and I felt Katherine Brunt bowled brilliantly for us, particularly with the new ball, with very little reward. And Laura Marsh bowled well.”
