Chicharito wants more playing time

Manchester United striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez was delighted to play a full game for his club as he fights to earn a spot in the Mexico squad ahead of the World Cup.

Hernandez also said he is aiming to put his case to manager David Moyes, especially as Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney are sidelined by injuries, after scoring for the second successive Premier League game — a 4-0 victory over Newcastle on Saturday.

“I’m happy, I played for 90 minutes and it’s a long time since I started a game,” Hernandez told MUTV after playing his first complete match since December for the Red Devils. “The World Cup is coming so I need time to prove, whether they give me one minute or 90, that I’m ready and that I want to contribute to the team to help us have a better season.”

As Moyes waits on Rooney’s fitness ahead of United’s Champions League quarterfinal clash against Bayern Munich, Hernandez said he was hopeful of his own chances to be included.

“We’re all ready to play, and that performance today showed that we are going to make difficult choices for the manager for that next game,” he said.

“It’s been a very hard season for me, but I’m trying to be very patient, and to work to try to speak on the pitch. I have nine goals at the moment, so I’ll keep working, be patient and speak on the pitch like I always do.”
