Man Utd Were Like A CONFERENCE Team – Fulham Defender

FULHAM rookie defender Dan Burn says not since his days in the Conference has he made so many headed clearances as he did at Old Trafford yesterday.

Manchester United have been compared to a team in the Conference

Towering Burn, who stands 6ft 7ins, was one of the heroes in a dogged defensive performance by Fulham to claim a suprise the 2-2 draw with Manchester United. And 21-year-old central defender Burn says United played to his strengths by sending over a record 81 crosses as Fulham withstood an aerial onslaught.

Burn, who played 10 games in the Conference with his first club Darlington, said: “I said to the lads in the dressing room afterwards that I’ve never headed that many balls since the Conference.

“But at the end of the day I’m happy for them [United] to play like that. I’m six foot seven. It helps when dealing with them sort of balls.

“We knew that was going to happen and we knew were going to defend our box well. We were going to keep our back four quite narrow so that we were between the goal and the wingers were going to look after the wide men.

“We’ve been working on that in training and I thought it worked well. They’ve had plenty of crosses, loads of chances and stuff but their second goal was quite lucky. I always felt we had something left.

“We’re chuffed. The lads are absolutely buzzing. I think we needed that. We’ve been on a bad run of form. We knew that we needed to put in a really good performance and we’ve shown there is still a lot of fight in there.”
