The club’s president Claudio Lotito is quoted telling TMW in Italy: ‘I do not want to sell him, we will have to receive an indecent offer – £15m will not be enough.’

The 28-year-old playmaker has said he wants to focus on his job at the Serie A club.

Defender Sebastian Coates looks set to leave the club on loan with Uruguayan side Nacional a possible destination.

Coates has been sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury this season.

The defender is quoted telling a Uruguayan radio station: ‘It would be beautiful to join Nacional and complete my recovery in Uruguay with my family and friends.’

Kolo Toure has said that Liverpool still are in the title race, citing that other teams will drop points between now and the end of the season which will give the Reds to chance to capitalise.

Toure told the Liverpool Echo: ‘Other teams will make errors. We just need to maintain our focus and believe in ourselves. In 16 games a lot can happen.

‘The Premier League is tough and every week you play against tough teams. Any team can beat any team. Even the teams near the bottom of the league give everything.

‘What we have done so far this season no-one was expecting at the start of the season. We just need to take on board where we can improve and keep going. We have a few days to recover and then we will analyse everything. We just have to avoid making the same mistakes. When you have hard times you see a strong team and we are a strong team.’

Manager Brendan Rodgers has fired a warning shot in the direction of Everton ahead of next week’s hugeMerseyside derby at Anfield, which sees the two teams separated by just a point.

Rodgers is quoted in the Daily Post saying: ‘He [Everton boss Roberto Martinez] will know how I work and how my teams work.

‘But he will know it will be a totally different game here for the derby.

‘We’ll be ready for the derby game for sure.’

Are Liverpool still in the title race?
