Manchester United could step up their interest in William Carvalho after scouting the Sporting Lisbon midfielder yet again.
The Premier League champions have watched the 21-year-old several times this year and had scouts in attendance at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos on Sunday to keep an eye on him during Sporting’s 2-0 win over Gil Vicente.
David Moyes is expect to bolster his squad in January following United’s underwhelming start to the season and a new midfielder is on his shortlist after missing out on Thiago Alcantara, Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera in the summer.
United hope their good relationship with Sporting – they bought Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani from the Portuguese club – will give them an advantage over Inter Milan, who also dispatched scouts to watch Carvalho on Sunday.
The Angola-born midfielder, who has four and a half years left on his contract, earned his first cap for Portugal last month during their 3-2 World Cup qualifying play-off win in Sweden.
